World Toilet Day
Putting limelight on the need for accessible and hygienic public restrooms. On November 19 th the importance of sanitation and good hygiene is celebrated with World Toilet Day.
This day raises awareness for the 2.6 billion people (nearly half of the world's population!) who don't have access to toilets and proper sanitation – while at the same time manifesting the importance of accessible and hygienic public restrooms.
It might seem trite to compare a life-or-death situation with the issue of hygienic public restrooms, but the fact is that public restrooms are not just a matter of convenience; they are a matter of dignity, public health, safety and a way to make cities more livable.
The importance of good hygiene in public restrooms is clearly stated in “Hygiene Matters”, a global report and reference on hygiene and sanitation published by SCA, maker of Tork. When asked about the area that people are most aware of in terms of hygiene, and in which areas of society the standards of hygiene primarily need to be improved, public restrooms top the charts.
Well-maintained and hygienic public restrooms reduce the amount of bacteria and viruses, which if not treated properly can cause a multitude of diseases. So while you may not think about it on a daily basis, it is important that public restrooms are properly equipped and frequently cleaned.
So whether the restroom is located in a school, in a hospital, in your work place or in the street, it needs to be well-equipped and easily maintained. Are you considering upgrading your current hygiene solutions? Welcome to contact your local Tork representative for more advice and information.
